Following are some of SciWrite's recent projects.
bulletIn 2008-2009, SciWrite drafted three chapters (Arctic Ecozone, Montane Cordillera Ecozone and Boreal Cordillera Ecozone) for the Canada Environmental Status and Trends Report.
bulletIn Chile beginning in 2006 and continuing in 2009, SciWrite assessed ecological changes in a Ramsar site (a wetland listed by the Ramsar Convention as an internationally important wetland) that followed the commissioning of a new pulp mill. The wetland is important for a wide variety of aquatic mammals and waterbirds such as the black-necked swan (pictured at right), some of which are endangered species. See South America.
bulletIn 2008-2009, SciWrite reviewed the progress of the British Columbia government towards implementation of a recovery plan for Mountain Caribou, for ForestEthics.
bulletIn 2008, SciWrite reviewed avian contaminants data and modeled uptake and effects for the Elk Valley Coal Partnership, as a follow-up to the next item.
bullet Blackbird.JPG (33367 bytes)In 2007, SciWrite had a paper published by the journal, Science of the Total Environment, reporting the findings of a study of the effects of selenium on red-winged blackbirds for a coal mining company in British Columbia. The paper is based on a field study the SciWrite conducted during 2003-2005. In previous phases of this work, SciWrite completed studies of the effect of selenium on river birds that resulted in a scientific journal publication (2001-2002) and a study of effects of selenium on waterfowl (2003-2004). See Toxicology.
bullet In 2007, SciWrite prepared a work plan and financial strategy for the 2010 Arctic Biodiversity Assessment for the Conservation of Arctic Flora and Fauna (CAFF) Working Group of the Arctic Council.
bullet Iben35_sm.jpg (53901 bytes)In the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, SciWrite prepared an implementation program for the Badia Research and Development Centre's implementation of the UNCC award during February-March, 2006 (see item below). Click here for more information on Jordan projects.
bulletFrom 1999 to 2007, SciWrite performed a variety of Web-based and other scientific services related to the London Convention for the International Maritime Organization (IMO).
bulletIn 2006, SciWrite edited survey protocols on owls and marbled murrelets for the British Columbia Ministry of Environment.
