In revision; please be patient Prior to retiring from Environment Canada in 1997, Dr. Harding presented papers at conferences and chaired meetings of of the Marine Environmental Quality Committee of PICES (North Pacific Science Organization, or Pacific ICES, http://www.pices.int) in Shanghai, China (1993), Nemuro, Japan (1994), Pusan, Korea (1995), and Qingdao, China (1995). Since starting SciWrite in 1998, Dr. Harding has presented a paper (Full text or PowerPoint Presentation) and chaired a technical session of the APEC Ministers of Environment meeting in Seoul, South Korea (2002), earned a PhD at Gifu University, Japan (2002-2003), and taught several AMETEC (http://www.ametec.org/) courses in marine environmental science at the South Sea Institute, Geoje Island, South Korea (2003, 2004, 2005). The courses include lectures, field sampling aboard a research vessel, and laboratory analyses for environmental contaminants. In 2005, Dr. Harding joined the AMETEC steering committee and chaired meetings at the South Sea Institute (2005) and the First Institute of Oceanography, Qingdao, China (2006). Dr. Harding was also on the advisory committee for a marine environmental science symposium held in conjunction with the 2006 Steering Committee meeting. In 2007, he participated in a steering committee meeting in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. These activities were on a volunteer basis to assist developing countries develop capacity for marine environmental protection. Participants have come from APEC economies (Chile, China, Indonesia, Malaysia, Papua New Guinea, Peru, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam) and other Pacific Rim countries (Cambodia, Fiji, Maldives, Myanmar and Uruguay).
